Halo Infinite Xbox Series X and Elite Controller

November 15th marked the 20th anniversary of the Halo franchise and for that Microsoft released a limited edition Xbox Series X console and Elite controller. The design of the console itself has stars inspired by the stars in Zeta Halo, the vent of the console is blue and is inspired by Cortana, one of the main characters in Halo. The back of the console has the 20th anniversary Halo logo with Master Chief.

I never owned an Xbox but my first experience with the Halo series was Halo 2. I remember vividly playing the campaign for the first time and being spooked out because of the Flood. Ever since then I’ve been hooked to Halo, I would play co-op campaign with friends and create our own maps/games in Forge mode. Reliving the memories in my head about Halo, I just knew I had to get both the console and controller no matter what. When the pre-orders for the console and controller went on sale I was luckily enough to order one of each through the Microsoft store as they sold out almost instantly. Along with most electronics, the chip shortage has affected video game consoles and caused a shortage on all consoles. I was surprised they announced a limited edition console because you still can’t walk into a store a purchase an Xbox Series X off the shelves. This limited edition marks the first limited edition console between Xbox and Playstation.

The MSRP for the console is $549.99 but is currently sold out and is being resold on marketplaces for over $1,000. If you’re trying to get your hands on a console or controller, there are rumblings online about a restock to happen within this week so be on the lookout. My best advice would do follow Twitter accounts such as Wario64 and HaloInfiniteGI that way you can try to purchase as soon as they become available.

Halo Infinite Multiplayer First Impressions

This past Monday, Microsoft had an event celebrating their 20th anniversary of Xbox and at the end of the event they had a major announcement. It wasn’t only the 20th anniversary of Xbox but the 20th anniversary of one the most popular video game franchises of all-time, Halo. 343 Industries announced that Halo Infinite’s Multiplayer would launch today (Monday), weeks ahead of the initial December 8th release. Everyone, including me rushed to their consoles and computers and were refreshing in anticipation to download the multiplayer file. In less than an hour I was able to download and get into my first match and let me tell you it did not disappoint. Every day since then I’ve been playing with my friends on Xbox and PC and it feels just like the Halo 2 & 3 multiplayer did. You would think the servers would crash on day one as the multiplayer is completely free but I had no problems whatsoever, which is quite a surprise as most games currently are having a lot of issues at launch *ahem* Battlefield 2042.
The gameplay feels very polished and the only bugs I’ve experienced were stuff in the main menu so it’s not affecting me during matches. The newly introduced weapons were quite a challenge when I first used them because I didn’t know what I was doing, yes I died a few times at first but I think I’ve gotten the hang of them.

There are a few complaints I have of Halo Infinite MP and I’ll start off with the cosmetics. The customization of your character has been limited way more than it has been in previous Halo games and it seems to be locked behind cosmetics in the shop. You would have to spend actual money to unlock more colors, armor, designs for your characters and vehicles. The other problem is the slow progression of their battle pass. It takes forever to level up and that’s a disadvantage for people who can’t play all day because of school or work. The challenges in the battle pass also require you to get kills with certain weapons, play specific games modes or do certain tasks. Those challenges might discourage players from playing the way they want to play. Why can’t you level up by just playing like any other game?

343 Industries has addressed the progression issue and they have released a temporary fix for it for now but there needs to be a permanent fix ASAP. Other than that, I haven’t been this excited for Halo multiplayer in a very long time and I can’t wait for the seasonal events to begin after Thanksgiving. On December 8th, Halo Infinite’s Campaign will launch and based on the first impressions from social media we are in for a treat.
